Morphological characteristics of Şebap Pigeons (Columba livia domestica)

Şebap pigeon is unique to Şanlıurfa region, which one of the domestication centers pigeons in Turkey. In this region breeding a tradition. there are 5 varieties Şebap, including Miski, Kürenk, Çakmaklı, Gök and Arap, were determined by Pigeon Association Federation. The objective study determine phenotypic characteristics pigeon. Animal material (n=132) consists stated varieties, analysed according age as well gender (n=66 male, n=66 female). Age groups formed on basis 4 development periods, 06-12 months (Group 1, n=28), 13-24 2, n=35), 25-36 3, n=37) >36 4, n=32). distribution was follows: Miski (57.5%), Kürenk (16.7%), Çakmaklı (11.4%), (11.4%) Arap (3.0%). According morphological study, difference between terms body length found be statistically significant (p < 0.01). findings support view that breed. However, it would meaningful results obtained for morphometric characterization with future genetic studies.
